Welcome to Glencoe

A quiet, historic neighborhood with a friendly community perfect for families.

Glencoe is a quaint, historic village developed with the primary goal of uniting a busy downtown with a quiet residential community. Tree-lined streets compose its peaceful residential quadrant, with the majority of the area beyond downtown designated to homes in a wide variety of architectural styles (some designed by famous architects such as Keck & Keck), schools, and churches.

Perhaps one of Glencoe's most appealing qualities is its location within a greenbelt surrounding the area with wide-open spaces teeming with wildlife and scenic views.

People & Lifestyle

Glencoe is predominantly composed of families. The majority of residents own single-family homes and tend to remain in the area even after they become empty nesters. A small, but prominent part of the population is made up of those over the age of 65 and retirees.

Life in Glencoe is often slow-paced, yet there is always something to do thanks to its tight-knit and gregarious community that sponsors numerous events year-round. Many residents pride themselves on taking part in volunteer opportunities to give back to their communities.

Dining, Entertainment & Shopping

Hometown Coffee is one of Glencoe's most popular spots for great food and a hot cup of joe— and for a good reason. Unlike most commercialized chains, Hometown Coffee uses only the freshest ingredients from locally-owned farms and purveyors.

Breakfast, lunch, and dinner items are available all-day. Hometown Coffee pride themselves on brewing only the best La Colombe Coffee, which is second to none. If you’re not a huge coffee drinker, try one of their cold-pressed juices.

After doing some shopping in the town square, Guildhall Restaurant is a great place to grab dinner. With its vibrant modern atmosphere mixed with rustic charm, Guildhall has become a staple for locals and visitors alike. Perfect for meat and seafood lovers, their contemporary menu is full of varied choices, including decadent Neapolitan pizzas and even an ice cream bar for dessert.

Providing quality gourmet food items to Chicago residents for more than three decades, Foodstuffs is a must for foodies who want to try something unique and ensure they’ll receive top-notch quality fruits and vegetables.

Grab sumptuously-prepared food items while on-the-go, including their homemade salads, sauces, custom sandwiches, and quality meats. Those with a sweet tooth can’t get enough of their caramel apples!

Things to Do

Located in Glencoe Park District, Friends Park has become a flagship destination for many and has even won the most outstanding state park award in the past. It’s an excellent place for children to play, parents to gather, and forging new friendships.

The tot lot and state-of-the-art playground are themed loosely around a train trip. Exceeding ADA standards, Friends Park is accessible, safe, and engaging for all children regardless of ability.

On the weekend, Glencoe Beach is an ideal place for a family outing or outdoor picnic. Featuring a sprayground, a concession stand, sun shelters, volleyball courts, and sailboat storage, the beach has plenty to do and unbeatable views of the North Shore.

Lifeguards are on duty every day, and if you’re interested in recreation, there are sailboats, kayaks, and paddleboards available to rent. Not only that, but interested patrons can also sign up for boating lessons.

Glencoe's creatives are likely to find a home away from home at the award-winning Writers Theater, which puts on classic plays and riveting performances for more than 60,000 patrons each season. Renovated in 2016, the theater is now a state-of-the-art facility and a thriving center for the arts located in downtown Glencoe.
